Word of the Week: Washing

Now this is not the most interesting of words but it has summed up my week and means quite a bit to me:

Bloody washing. With one? Easily manageable. Two fine. Even three once we got the tumble dryer it was not much of a problem. But. Four???!!!! The washing is totally and utterly relentless!!!! Seriously! Awful. Never ever ending. Since the boy has been born I have managed to get it all done. Once. Once I could see the bottom of the washing basket. Once! In 15 months!

I was finding myself not being able to cope with everything. Being a Mum, friend, teacher, wife and me. It was all becoming a bit too much. So I thought I would set myself little goals each week to help me get on top of everything. So this week? 'twas the washing. I have told myself that I need to do a load a day. Which means washing, drying and hanging it all up (doom). Keep on top of it. Find it manageable. Think of it as just a boring task I need to do and this week? Yay! I've done it! Huzzah!

So a big old boring word and a big old boring task but this little task could mean the start of me getting to grips with everything. Washing? You tried to beat me you never ending bastard. But. I win!

  4. Haha, I bloody hate it too. I hate it when you get one of those really big loads that has loads of little things in to hang up, like socks. Sodding socks. I long for a load of sheets, just 2 things to hang up, hurrah! #mustgetoutmore

  6. Well done you!! Just when I think I've washed, dried and put it all away the dirty washing basket miraculously refills itself. After 16 years I've come to the conclusion that I'm never going to win!

    1. That's so true! I have been known to scream about this. Put it all away. Pop into the bathroom. And it's back up to the top again. How! xxx

  7. Well done! The bigger your family gets the tougher the washing gets. I went from being a family of 3 to family of 5 over night, that was tough. Today is the first day in weeks I have finally got to the bottom of the washing basket!

    1. It does. As when you are packing away your stuff you know what's coming next. You know that the next three days are a holiday doom. My friend takes old clothes on holiday and then just leaves them there! I enjoy this plan xxx

  10. I know what you mean. My worst bit is putting it away. It hangs about so long it starts to feel dirty again. Grim. Still at least it's getting warmer and we can get it on the line. I am totally crap at tumble drying - everything comes out crumbled up like an old tissue, never to be the same again. I've trashed all my husband's shirts. He won't let me dry them anymore. What am I doing wrong people? Totally incompetent! Great post.

    1. Putting away is the worse isn't it? I have a pile system which I have honed over the year. Then my husband helps and it all messes up. How I shout! xxx

  12. Well done on reaching the bottom of the washing basket! I've no idea why (call me weird!) but washing is one of my preferred jobs - as long as I'm on top of it I quite get some strange sense of satisfaction from hanging and folding clothes! That said I could not live without the tumble dryer. Washing up is my absolute nemesis - I generally manage to trade it off with the husband in return for being the laundry queen. And since he's a running fanatic who creates piles of sweaty stuff he gets a pretty good deal! #WotW

    1. I used to love washing and then I had the bit and now it is never ending! I'm lucky the hub is the one that does the washing up when he gets in. Even though I've already done two during the day! Sigh I dream of a dish washer xxx
