It's been ages since I have done a Weekly Wonders review post but recently I visited a couple of local places I thought would be worthy of writing about. Firstly we were invited to trial the new kids menu at a Frankie and Bennys blogger's meet up. Secondly I may (totally did) have took Erin out of pre-school for the day and ran away to Twycross Zoo! Mwah ha ha....well you're only four once aren't you?
Local Food Fun - Frankie and Bennys at The Fort, Birmingham
I don't tend to do many restaurant reviews with my two as eating out with small children can often be an UTTER nightmare. However? When we got an email to test out the new Frankie and Benny's kids menu at The Fort as part of their blogger ambassador scheme? I KNEW my husband would be rabid so we went along.
The menu consists of all the kids favourites. Which not only come in small sizes, but also Juniors if your children are that little bit older. My boy had chicken nuggets and fries. Which came with a little bowl of veg and my girl had sausage and fries, also with veg. It was fab as they happily replaced the mash for chips so she was super happy. The puddings on offer were lovely with the usual ice cream sundaes. But next time? I would opt for the little tray of sweets with ice cream. IT LOOKED AMAZING! And maybe one or two of my children may have had a breakdown when they didn't get one.
Despite taking two small children out being a bit hard? Franky and Benny's provide them with a little pack to do some colouring and there is always a balloon on offer to keep them occupied! Well worth a visit after you've done some shopping at The Fort.
Local Days Out Fun - Twycross Zoo
It's been a while since I visited Twycross Zoo so whilst my girl doesn't have to go to school everyday I thought we would ditch it and drive across the city to visit. We booked out tickets online so we got quite a bit off. Be warned, when you enter there is a new soft play which is extra. However I paid it and as it was a quiet day the kids could just go in and out all day. And as it was ruddy freezing? That was le dream!
Twycross is famous for their monkeys. And there are 100's of different species. You can get up close and personal to everything from spider monkeys to gorillas. Which is amazing. One high fived my son through the glass and it made me weep with laughter. One of my best Mum moments ever! It's currently being refurbished at the moment but already I noticed massive improvements in the giraffe area and also where the elephants live.
It looks like come summer time there is going to be a water play area just like in Peppa World (which is amazing on a really hot day). There are lots of nice places to eat, and picnic areas to hang around in. I even noticed an indoor picnic area which is THE DREAM! I love a picnic me! Overall we had a fab day out and it was one of those Mummy memories that you will hold dear when they are stroppy teens and hate your guts. Check out Twycross here.
Here's a little vlog of what happened on our day out!
