All You Need Is Posh Chips And A Posh Bed

My husband and I have always loved Cheltenham. We had a flying visit there last year with the kids. But my daughter at the time was in the throws of chicken pox so we literally saw the inside of a hotel room. It was horrific! So when we were invited to go and stay in the The Montpellier Chapter Hotel and also pop over to Simpsons Fish and Chips to try out the UK's no1 chippy? We jumped at the chance.

We arrived at the hotel at midday and then spent the next few hours going round the shops and having  a vino in the park (at an outside bar, we aren't the kind of parents that carry wine in our bags at all times for emergencies). Both within walking distance from the hotel. We checked in at 3pm and were excited to hear that we had two rooms. TWO ROOMS! Did this mean one for romance and one for kiddy fun? No of course it mean one for the girls and the other for the "stinky boys".

The two beautifully decorated HUGE rooms were joined together with an internal corridor. Which in it has two little seats and a table. This came in very handy when I inexplicably awoke the next day before the whole family (sods law). I crept into this little nook and gorged on YouTube whilst everyone snoozed. When you are thinking of a family stay you need to consider the following; is the bed big enough to sleep with an adult and possible two wriggling children, does the wifi work so you can pop on Netflix, are there enough plugs for your various sanity saving devices and is there a bath?

I can confirm? The Montpellier Chapter Hotel had all of those things. The bed was ginormous and really comfortable. Wifi was available (and shoved on) the instant we got in the room. There were loads of plug sockets. And an amazing desk in both rooms so if you needed to do a bit of work you could. And the bathroom? Was beautiful. Jet black, with complimentary smellies, the bath was deep enough for two little ones to swim around in and the benefit of having two bathrooms? Mummy got to have a snooze in one whilst Daddy shoved the kids in the other.

After a great nights sleep we went down to breakfast. With a good array of bits and pieces on offer instantly to eat such as cereal, fruit and pastries. We only had to wait a short while for our breakfast which can be ordered off the menu. I opted for salmon and scrambled eggs. Whilst the rest of the family went for a full English. It was nice to have a choice rather than fill up on a million hash browns like we usually do.

In an ideal location, close to a variety of restaurants, shops and parks, The Montpellier Chapter Hotel is perfect for a family mini break. Two rooms meant that the kids had a vast amount of space to run around in and I got to have a bath in peace! The staff were friendly and the hotel itself was beautiful. If you are interested then why not take a look at the Montpellier Hotel and book your very own mini break.

Whilst we were there we were also invited the the UKs number 1 chippy, Simpsons Fish And Chips. My husband was quite excited at the prospect of tucking into award winning chips, and generally one for moaning about reviews he was happy to attend this one. Situated not far from the centre Cheltenham, Simpsons is decorated beautifully. With a 50's vibe, the super friendly staff wear bright red lips and bandana headbands. The walls are black with an amazing mural and of course there is a giant lightbox!

As it's a family run business, kids are welcome in the chip shop. They are given colouring on arrival and there is a good choice of menu. Including those all important nuggets if your kiddo isn't a fan of fish. For the grown ups? You can indulge in the bog standard cod and chips or tuck into king prawns and langoustine tails if you're feeling fancy. They have gluten free options too if that's more your thing. There are also some amazing alcoholic drinks on the menu. Including a local gin that will blow your head off!

Whether you choose to sit in a booth or one of the gorgeous areas of the shop (I LOVED the giant vintage American flag area) you don't feel like you are being rushed out and the whole experience has more of a restaurant feel rather than a chippy take away. We all loved the food, loved chatting with the staff and I mainly LOVED the gin! To find out more about the well deserved no1 chippy in the UK go and visit them here and book a table now!

  4. WHAAAT! Philippa LIVED OPPOSITE THAT HOTEL?! Small flipping world!
I stayed at the hotel on our wedding night - although it was in its previous incarnation. It looks just as lovely now as it did then. We are also fans of good old Simpsons fish and chips (as is pretty much everyone in Cheltenham!). Looks like you all had a lovely stay.
