Cue joyous yelping from me and my children. You see by 5:45pm we are quite frankly bored of each other. When 5pm comes I'm generally hiding in the kitchen, ramming half eaten cold waffles down my gob watching the clock. The children? They are trying to kill each other or are sadly watching Peppa. Again (on a side note if I watch the one where there is a hole in the road one more time? I'm going to smash my tele in. Fact).
The joy I feel when he enters the house and I literally throw the children at him. Is paramount to me seeing him at the alter. Actually. Forget that. It's bloody better!
But. If he's late? Even if its five minutes late? He's the world worst human being alive. I do not care that there has been some unexplained traffic issue. Or even if your boss wanted to discuss with you that he wants to give you a pay rise. Where the hell are you? I have wept. I have shouted. Hung up on him. Screamed even.
That five, ten or even (gulp) thirty minutes I am left waiting is just the bit that tips us all over the edge. But the joy of him coming home early? A feeling of such elation I could scream. Kids thrown. Kettle on. And I watch two episodes of the Real Housewives instead of one. Sigh. Happy days.
So yes giggles, new born screams and "I love yous" are beautiful. But that key? In that front door? A total and utter. Lifesaver.
Great post and I totally relate! Time seems to slow down after 4.30 though while I wait for mine to get home! Xx
ReplyDeleteI sweae the clock stops! xxx
DeleteHa ha brill. My hubs isn't home till kids are in bed so I don't get this feeling but can imagine the roller coaster sensation! X
ReplyDeleteOh you'rea saint lasting that long! xxx
DeleteTotally agree! As soon as my little boy hears Da-da's steps up to the front door... All responsibility is passed over! :). I have been known to pass the wee one over and go and lie down in a darkened room for half an hour! :)
ReplyDeleteHa I've done that before to. The men must think we are proper mad! xxx
DeleteHaha I used to look out the window So many times around 6pm and then almost hover at the door. I definitely don't miss that time!
ReplyDeleteI've stood in the window like a total fruitloop too! Must jqad looked crackers xxx
Deletegreat post I can really really relate to this. I am horribly impatient. I hate waiting like you said for even a few minutes late. lol I am a door watcher as I am usualy cooking and can see the front door from my kitchen. lol #pocolo
ReplyDeleteHa! I do the same. Standing in the kitchen staring down to the front door! I run when I hear the key go in xxx
DeleteHa ha - YES! #willynilly
ReplyDelete:) xxx
DeleteTotally get where you're coming from! When my kids were little I would literally count down the minutes from 3.45. Not that he was ever home before 6.30. It's got to 7 now and all he wants to do is eat his tea in peace, but it's still nice to know he's there.
ReplyDeleteI think I start at four. It used to be from the afternoon nap. Up then the toddler dropped it so I had to reasses or else's I would have bee waiting from like 2pm! xxx
DeleteLol. I don't have that glorious sound in my life. Work means staying overnight for my other half. So he sneaks in in the middle of the night after 2 nights away! Even though I know he's not coming, I do still long to hear the key in the door!!!
ReplyDeleteAmy @2boys1mum
Oh imagine one day if he came home early! That truly is an amazing sound. One could weep with that! xxx
DeleteHa ha this is so true. My husband was 30 minutes late last week, yes there was a suspected bomb scare in town (turned out to be an ornament) but still he should have found a quicker way home!! we are currently watching tv to pass the time before he gets back tonight I am all worn out by Friday.
ReplyDeleteCourse he should. He should have known about said bomb and planned an emergency route. Fool! xxx
Deletehahaha! I can so relate......
ReplyDelete:) xxx
DeleteHaha so true in our household as well. That Peppa Pig epi is just so much to handle too. When husband is a bit late both son & I would look out of the window and ask why is he late? While looking at our imaginary watch on our wrist. #pocolo
ReplyDeleteI hate Peppa! My kids scream when he arrives. Like they have got to the point where quite frankly they hate me a bit. Ha ha ha xxx
DeleteSo true. So many times I've ripped hubby a new one after he has been late and I've had enough of the kids by then! #pocolo
ReplyDeleteOur poor hubs. Bless them and their stupid late ways xxx
DeleteI used to be able to relate to this! The difficult thing in our house is that Ross works from home and is in his office next door to the kitchen so I never really know if he is 'coming home'! Thank you for linking to PoCoLo :) x
ReplyDeleteOh good bloomin job my hub doesn't work from home. I would be tempted to shove the kids in with him accidentally all the time! xxx
